Rome: Archaeological tour of Ancient Rome

3 Hours

Explore the main sites of Ancient Rome in the company of a passionate archaeologist. This 3-hour tour explores the center of Ancient Rome, from the time of the Kings to the Empire.

As a small group, you will stroll by the major landmarks of the Eternal City including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Capitol Hill, and learn about its history and transformations.

The group meets in Piazza Venezia, in front of the Basilica di San Marco Evangelista al Campidoglio. After greeting participants the tour leader will introduce the history of the Eternal City from its foundations more almost 3000 years ago.

You will then move towards the impressive Capitoline Hill, one of Rome’s 7 hills. Today’s City Hall is located up here in a beautiful square. The terrace behind the square offers amazing panoramic views of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.

Next, we will walk along the Imperial Fora and finish near the Colosseum in a spot near that offers great photographic opportunities of Rome’s most famous landmark.

How big was Ancient Rome? What was the Forum? How was it? What was the function of the Colosseum? And, have you ever wondered, what happened to Rome after the fall of the empire? How come everything turned into ruins or got buried?

Take this tour to have answers to these questions and especially if you are not in a hurry and want to get detailed information, going beyond the obvious.
