Walking tour of Rome’s Via Appia and Catacombs

4 Hours

Take a walk to Rome’s Catacombs of Saint Callixtus or Saint Sebastian, where you can visit the site with a guide from the Vatican. The tour includes sights of the ancient Via Appia, with stones that were laid more than 2000 years ago.

The tour starts outside the Circus Maximus and ends at the exit of the Caffarella Valley, near the ancient Via Latina. Public transport and taxis are available there.

Tour details:

At the meeting point outside the Circus Maximus you will find your guide and meet the other participants. From there, the group will head to Via Appia Antica, which starts outside the Aurelian Walls of Rome.

The walk along ancient ruins will continue as far as the Catacombs of Saint Callixtus or Saint Sebastian (depending on the opening days). A professional guide will show you how the early Christians did their burials.

After you emerge from underground, we will cross the green Caffarella Valley and reach the end point of the tour, where many private and public transport options are available.
